Overhead Press Exercise

Use the Overhead Press for building muscle to strengthen the shoulders, improve posture, and protect against injuries, increasing benefits by using neoprene coated dumbbells.

Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, holding comfortable weights at shoulder level, palms facing forward, holding weights with a firm steady grip. Press the weights upward, until your arms are fully extended. Slowly lower arms to the starting position. Exhale as you lift, inhale as you lower the weights. Repeat 10 times. Rest and repeat. Begin with one set of 10 repetitions. Build to two (2) sets.

For advanced users add more challenge by increasing weights and adding one more set.

Dumbbell Weights

This overhead press exercise uses dumbbells to increase its muscle-building and strengthening potential.

Begin by using weights that are light enough to be comfortable throughout an entire set. The individual weights – most often sold in pairs – are available in one pound increments up to 10 pounds.

The best options for dumbbell weights are those covered with a colored coating. This makes the weights both more attractive and more comfortable to hold. The two most common options for coating are vinyl and neoprene. We recommend a neoprene covering because it helps you keep a firm grip while exercising, even if you sweat. Vinyl coatings, on the other hand may look the same, but their smooth surface can cause the weight to slip from your grip if your hands get wet or slick with sweat.

An added benefit: the neoprene coating will even help protect your floors should you drop one!

Expect to pay $4 to $40 per pair, based on the total weight.
